Ok, so that fits. And Sam is a hero, yes, but what are his greatest qualities? He is very humble and completely loyal to Frodo. Pretty much what you want in a servant. Being a commoner, he is also not very clever. He even is shorter than Frodo, for crying out loud!

Not blindly loyal, though. He never trusts Gollum, no matter how much Frodo might. And just when Frodo’s desire is to just give up, Sam picks him up and carries him on the last leg of their journey. There’s a lot of friendship going on here, which I think is being confused with a master/servant relationship a bit.
