In just a few hours’ time, Gilad Shalit will have been in Hamas clutches for 5 years. He was captured in a Hamas raid that killed two other Israeli soldiers who attempted to thwart a Hamas raid into Israel.

Shalit has been held by Hamas for the past five years and each passing year brings the same calls by Hamas - demands for Israel to release hundreds of terrorists in exchange for Shalit.

This year, Israel’s demands for Shalit’s release have been answered by the G8, EU and France, which also call for Shalit to be released.

Those calls however fall on deaf ears since Hamas knows that Shalit’s value is in how many terrorists can be released in a deal with Israel.
