Seriously though, I do find it interesting to see what constitutes humor or what’s considered insulting in other cultures.

I see you read my response to Charles. Oone of the epithets they use for Arabs is malakh-khor which literally means “locust eater”. There actually are Arabs that eat locusts—including “Iranian Arabs” from the western (Iraqi) side of Iran.

A guy I knew from Abadan told me how they used to have these locust invasions every so often (we’re talking biblical proportions here) and how his mom & the other women would go up on the rooftops and use their chadors to catch them. Then they’d get roasted, salted & eaten, like sunflower seeds or pistachios.

Anyway, so it was kind of like, “Eww, disgusting locust-eating Arabs. We’re ever so much more sophisticated than them.

Gosh, I hadn’t thought about any of this in ages. Funny what you remember.

So did that kill everyone’s appetite? //
