My mom would make them with Miracle Whip instead of mayo and called them “angeled eggs”. I liked them and didn’t realize they were unusual until I moved here and my mother-in-law made traditional deviled eggs. Then she started making her eggs with half mayo, half Miracle Whip, thinking I might like them better that way. No, mom, just… no. There is no need to create an abomination just to make me happy.

We were a Miracle Whip household. I didn’t know it wasn’t mayo until I was an adult. Probably because we didn’t use it much outside of deviled eggs, potato salad and turkey sandwiches the day after Thanksgiving. Mom probably threw out more Miracle Whip than we ate. Now, the only thing I use mayo for is the occasional tuna salad in the summer, and I go back and forth between mayo and Miracle Whip depending on my mood or what’s on sale.
