I suppose that the Saudi royals are at least aware of the reality of the situation. However the situation is so very precarious that even the slightest of reforms could cause the entire wretched system to come crumbling down around their ears - which means that after having painted themselves into a corner they are just sitting tight and hoping that it won’t be their generation in power when the party is finally over.
