Fact is that Solendrya is winding down its operations and that money was a bet on the company.

It didn’t pan out, but other DOE loans have thus far helped get companies going. Future loans will likewise do the same, though the number of companies and the amount of money at stake will be vastly limited because of the Solendrya fallout.

That shouldn’t be the case - and it isn’t a matter of picking winners and losers as the GOP has been claiming. It’s about making funds available for startups so that they can have a chance to succeed to the point where there can be a ROE development of new technologies.

The GOP is flogging green energy as though it’s the bogeyman, but it just shows their shortsightedness considering that there are alternative energy resources that could not only reduce reliance on foreign energy sources, but which can make the US more self sufficient for production of energy domestically - a real energy security plan.
