I had to do some last minute holiday shopping. At every store, I met secret members of the The Resistance - at least I assume that’s what they were. “Merry Christmas,” they each wished me. But it wasn’t a cheerful nonchalant salutation as in more peaceful times. No, there was a note of flinty aggression in each greeting. Merry Christmas, then they’d hold defiant eye contact for a moment as if waiting for me to recoil in horror and signal for the Politically Correct Gestapo. Merry Christmas? MERRY CHRISTMAS?! Spicy Flying Spaghetti Monster! Help! Help! Police! And the unsmiling secular men in black would arrive, Vat haf ve here, ya? And I’d be all, this person wished me a Merry Christmas! TAKE HER AWAY! And as they dragged her away she’d be screaming, Thaaat’s right, I said it, Down With The Oppressors, Merry Christmas, hah hah, Merry Christmas, you can give me a lump of coal in my stocking but you’ll never take our Little Baby Jeeeeeesus!
