I think the problem here is that I could see it pass by a wide margin on a nationwide basis — but fail in GOP-lead states. The Senate would not allow such legislation to pass to protect women nationally. The only way for there to be a change in attitude is if some senior GOP officials lose loved ones because of this heinous legislation, and that won’t happen because they will just send people out of state or out of the country to have the procedure performed on them.

No doubt. TBH I don’t advise doing what the Irish did with SSM and abortion rights being put up to the vote like that. I think certain rights like that are ingrained in our Constitution but what I was getting at was that I was surprised that abortion being legally wasn’t something that was just popular in the Irish Republic’s cities such as Dublin or Galway where I studied but it also passed in rural areas too as did SSM. What I think we’re going to need to do is have a federal bill that strengthens the right to choose. .
