One point I remember reading about these scams is that many scammers try to be a little ridiculous in their ‘pitch’.

The goal is to filter out competent and knowledgeable people who, basically from the scammers viewpoint, would waste the scammers time by seeing through the scam.

The scammers really only want to spend their time with those more likely to be fooled.
