I live three miles from work and my commute is kind of weird. I can hop onto 35E in the morning and it moves along at the speed limit (45mph because reasons) until I jump off on the other side of downtown, but if I try to go home by the same route at 4:30 I get stuck in the freeway crawl from hell. I just take 7th street home. Not real speedy but less frustrating than sitting motionless on the freeway. The drive home goes past dozens of very yummy restaurants.

My commute has always been asymmetrical. Leaving the west suburbs at 5:00 AM ensures that traffic flowing into the Cities is smooth, but no matter what reasonable hour I leave in the afternoon, traffic is always stacked up. It’s only less bad if I leave work early.
