re: #228 lawhawk
Someone having $250k in net income would have to have a gross income significantly above that point. Indeed, to bring home $250,000 net, you’d have to make at least $9,615.38 every two weeks (take home pay).
A rough calculation would require a gross income of $14,096.13, which translates into an annual salary of $366,499.38. That’s with the following caveats: no state and local taxes or other pre/post tax deductions withheld. My calculator.
In turn, if you wanted to work from a gross income of $250k, your take home would be in the ballpark of $179,400 (around $6,900 biweekly) - but subject to the same caveats: no state and local taxes or other pre/post tax deductions withheld.
Someone could live quite comfortably with those numbers.
That said, a 2-family income in the NYC metro area could hit $179,400 net (with the gross of $250k) fairly easily due to the higher incomes commanded in the area (and the taxes would significantly reduce the net from that level).
I really get tired of this line. The 2009 median household income of NYC - not the nation, but NYC - was $55,554 according to the Census bureau.
That some people are rich, or even well off, does not make it the norm.
