First 3D-printed gun fired

Creator Defense Distributed said that the 3D-printed handgun, called the Liberator, was successfully fired in its first test at a firing range south of Austin, Texas.

Fifteen parts of the gun are made from ABS heat-resistant plastic, while the firing pin is metal in order to be picked up by metal detectors and make it legal under US law.

The handgun is capable of firing standard handgun rounds and the blueprints for the weapon are available to download from the internet.

Footage of the test shows 25-year-old university student Cody Wilson firing the gun at a target. The student spent eight months creating the gun.
