Yet another drive by post by yours truly …

The whacked out right wing and its undue influence over the GOP has created the vacuum that allowed Nancy Pelosi to seize the speakers gavel and allow a freshman Senator with no executive experience to be elected POTUS.

So what happens in the aftermath? They hit the accelerator.

And to anyone who is out there with the doubt in the back of his / her mind that says “well, all these tea party folks aren’t racists, and all these different folks opposed to what is happening in DC aren’t creationists, so this whole ‘GOP over the cliff thing is overblown’” -

Negation in politics can create large groups of disparate interests who start seeing themselves as “united” and start thinking that things are “coming together”. That is how the negative works - everyone in the group is united by what it is not. That was how the “we hate George Bush” club got organized and won the last election.

After the election, the club members got to learn who was running the club and - surprise surprise - you have massive defections from the club.

So who is running the resurgent conservatism club? The social conservatives are. Just follow the news of the expulsions and the RINO baiting. Just pay attention to who the organizers are. Just look at who are coming up with the rules regarding who will be allowed in the “tent”.

And remember that these people have no scruples - they are the same kinds of people who could exploit Cindy Sheehan (I actually feel profoundly sorry for her at this point) right up to election day 2006 and then put her out to pasture when the important business of divvying up the spoils was at hand. You’ll find the same brand of mindless ideologue / political whore behind the “real conservative” movement as you will behind the “committed progressive” movement. Not really movements - more like a gaggle of opportunistic political banshees.
