Interesting poll in light of this issue:

between @ 50-70% of Americans oppose cutting government in funding for the arts and sciences, aid to farmers, homeland security, military and national defense, anti-poverty programs, Medicare, Social Security, and Education.

The only majority number for cuts: @ 60% favor cutting foreign aid - a minuscule portion of the federal budget.

What’s amazing is that Republicans think that they can convince the public of their rationale for drastic cuts in areas like, say in education, 67% of the public is in opposition to cutting.

They are extremely confident in their propaganda machine, and in their ability to channel fear and anger. I wish I were as confident that they will fail.
