My grandmother was a Jewish atheist feminist back before it was cool, man.

I’ve never really questioned the Jewish atheist thing in the same, way, much like a fish has never questioned water’s wetness, but it does often cause confusion. It also causes more confusion if I try to work in the Sephardic part and how very different that tradition is from the Ashkenazic one in many ways, with different tragedies.

The Jewishness of my grandmother’s side is even more tangled in that she described them various as conversos and marranos.

That book looks nifty and I’m going to recommed it to my friend Uri, the Berkeley professor who’s translating the Tanakh. Have I recommended his stuff to you before?
