And hand-in-hand with this is not wanting followers to read it unsupervised either. They then might not agree with the desired interpretations, or possibly read sections you do not desire them to read.

Protestantism in some forms has come full circle to the kind of centralized authority that Luther and Calvin were rejecting. With printed Bibles available in vernacular languages, it was easy to remove control of belief and interpretation from priests using the Vulgate. There was a democratization of faith. But some people just crave authority, so some Protestant sects have returned to the same top-down theology that Luther was condemning.
