re: #228 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

Is it still made from whipped civet cat sweat?

Supposedly replaced with synthetics in 1998.
Civets seem to get a bad time from humans with weird tastes. Besides being beaten and sometimes killed for perfume, they are exploited for another shitty (literally) and expensive product:

Kopi Luwak is also known as caphe cut chon (fox-dung coffee) in Vietnam and kape alamid in the Philippines. It is coffee that is prepared using coffee cherries that have been eaten and partially digested by the Asian palm civet, then harvested from its fecal matter.
A 2012 investigation by The Guardian newspaper found Indonesian civets held separately in cramped cages. The animals were force-fed a debilitating diet of coffee cherries in conditions described by the Traffic charity as “awful” and “horrific”.

Stuff costs a hundred bucks a cup in some places. I got some 7-11 coffee once that tasted like it had been excreted by an alleycat, but at least it was cheap.
