re: #226 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

If the GOP was not so “infested” with religious fundamentalists, they could really appeal to gays: often affluent professionals (no kids to derail their careers) interested in low taxes (as they are less likely to be able take dependent child deductions or mortgage interest on a large house in a neighborhood with good schools) and generally happy with less government (as in the less interference in their lifestyle)

But the GOP has made it clear that it is the Party of Jesus and are convinced that Jesus’ dad does not look kindly on non-binary biologically determined gender affiliation.

I have 2 cousins who are gay: both are affluent and have children who are still at home. Many affluent gays are willing to assume that religious fundamentalism is the necessary price to keep Republicans in power so that they can continue to get their tax cuts. Peter Thiel is a perfect example of how too many wealthy gays figure that their wealth insulates them from backlash and that preserving their money is more important than preserving any rights. Especially in the era of Trump and the GOP, wealth buys rights. Laws apply only to the poor and working class.
