And I would hardly call Bernie crazy. Single payer healthcare is absolutely a mainstream position everywhere except the US.
I guess it’s a mainstream position, but it’s not the way a lot of Europe does it. There’s pretty much universal healthcare, but it might be with private companies (Swiss, Dutch), non-profits (Germany), or base healthcare with private add-ons, that kind of thing.
It’s all complicated, but nearly everyone is covered, and there are strict controls on health care and prescription med prices. I’m in a situation where I pay full freight and get reimbursed by a private insurer, but the bills are like 10 to 20 percent of what I’d pay in the US (except when I had Kaiser). Eyeglasses and contacts are about the same, though.
