Fair enough critique, although I would disagree that “left” and “right” are self-descriptive. They are also ways of describing the “other”. As an academic matter, however, they are convenient descriptives that provide a contextual structure for understanding general approaches of a particular world-view. In that sense, they are, like any other generalization, inaccurate to the extent that they do not account for the existence of deviations from the norm. I would readily agree that the circle paradigm, by providing only a general construct for studying or understanding the issue, suffers from the same flaw. However, as I pointed out in my response to ThomasLite the overall worldviews of what we call the “extreme right” and “extreme left” are much closer than most would care to acknowledge.
