But it might be better to make a counter-proposal instead of just stripping it. We’ve all been worried about the CDC, so how about offering a micro bill funding the CDC plus the budget bill for the Justice Department in exchange for the Treasury limits being dropped. That would fund important priorities and allow the GOP to claim a win while getting rid of the problematic limits.

The GOP declared war over an issue they cannot reasonably expect to prevail on. Wars escalate.

Minimally, the punishment for that bit of destructive stupidity needs to be that the GOP is forced to end this manufactured crisis without the tiniest thing they can point to as a ‘win’.
