1976 doesn’t really look like any election before or since. I wouldn’t make it the basis for any predictions about the future.

If the Democrats win big in 2018, I think 2020 will look a lot like the best of the Clinton/ Obama majorities- scrapping voter suppression laws will boost the Democrats in the South Atlantic and southwestern states (maybe even Texas, but I doubt it and the Democrats shouldn’t need it), but the interior South, Plains states and northern Rockies are gone absent divine intervention.
