‘Sounds like the House GOP has settled on passing their new plan (short term extension of the debt limit, $1T in initial cuts, a new super congress / small group of equal numbers of Rs and Ds that can bring legislation to a vote that can’t be amended or filibustered by the regular congress, and guaranteed votes in the House and Senate on their uber-RW-edit of the old Balanced Budget Amendment). The idea is if you pass that on Wed. and have the Senate GOP filibuster Reid’s $2.7T in cuts + long term debt ceiling extension, you’ll be left with the House GOP bill as the only bill standing and they’ll be completely out of time. Media, lobbying and simply-not-wanting-American-default-on-their-watch will then pressure the Dems to accept the only path forward.

Tactically, I suppose, one way out of this box for the Dem side might be to start arguing that as a matter of fairness they’ll allow a Senate vote on the GOP bill only if the GOP allows a Senate / House vote on the Reid plan.
