Gov. Perry: Gay marriage is states’ rights issue

ASPEN, Colo. — Texas governor and potential Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry says he supports state rights so much that he’s fine with New York allowing gay marriage.

Perry told several hundred potential GOP donors in Aspen, Colo., on Friday that he’s an “unapologetic fiscal conservative” and opposes gay marriage but that he’s also a strong believer in the 10th Amendment.

He says New York’s decision is “their business” and that’s fine with him.

I’d prefer same-sex marriage to be uniformly recognized among the states (just as I’d like concealed handgun licenses to be uniformly recognized), and that would probably necessitate some federal involvement,

I have to give Gov. Goodhair credit for not instantly defaulting to the standard Bryan Fischer rhetoric. A polite smattering of applause.

The question I have now is: how long until his spokespeople spin it 6 ways to Sunday, and say that he “misspoke” or whatever?
