In an absolute pinch, you still have about 30-40 gallons of good water in your water heater. To get it out, open a hot water faucet for air replacement, then find the bottom drain. Put a chunk of garden hose on it. GO SHUT OFF THE HEATER CIRCUIT BREAKER OR GAS SUPPLY SO YOU DON’T COOK AN EMPTY TANK WHEN POWER RETURNS.

Also, be careful of what comes out the bottom; an old water heater might have some rust and stuff down there. Once you get past that, it should be fine.
