That sounds glorious. My dad sat me down to start teaching me when I was two. We come from a long line of chess masters in my family.

It took me until I was 14 to beat him. I found he hated defending against queen’s gambit… lol.

I think what happened is I really wanted to be a chess master when I was a little kid, didn’t have anyone except some jr. high school teachers and an Apple ][ copy of Sargon to give me a leg up, went to a couple tournaments in jr. high, did okay for my district, had my ass handed to me at regionals, and realized that I was way better suited to tossing 20 sided dice and fighting imaginary wizards than I was at chess :D
