By selecting Akin, the GOP might very well have cost themselves the coming Senate race in Missouri. He’s being exposed as the right wing lunatic that he is, and that might turn off just enough independent voters in MO to get the Democratic party candidate elected.

Hard to say. I don’t see any polls from after the primary two weeks ago, but he’s been in the House as an openly right wing lunatic, so I don’t think this will hurt him much.
