Christie is an awful politician, I’m not going to disagree there, but all this focus on his appearance is making me uncomfortable.

We’d be rightly pissed off if the media were doing this to a woman. It’s not cool to do it to a guy either.

I can’t figure out any reason why this has made the news beyond “haha, look how fat he is.”

So maybe that makes me a stick in the mud but as someone who has struggled a lot with body image, I’m going to call it as I see it.

Making fun of his appearance is one thing; being concerned about the health of someone who is campaigning to be Leader of the Free World(tm) is another. See also: people harping on Obama’s smoking habit and McCain’s age (especially important given his choice of running mate).
