OK, since both Stanley and Floral are here, I want to post this story and get the group’s reaction:

As far as I can see, the armed citizen who stopped the rape behaved correctly, but I want to ask if the group feels that the police did so as well, and if the story was reported right (the article was written by a woman). Please let me know what you think.

I read some of the comments at the linked article, and a few people made some very good points about how there were lots of other charges the police could have laid (e.g. trespassing on the school property, drunk & disorderly conduct, etc). So, they still could have arrested the man. And if he and the victim had known each other for “45 years”, as the article stated, they must be pretty old, in their 50s at least. What in the hell were they doing in an elementary school playground anyway??

My guess (knowing nothing beyond what’s in the article) is that the woman and the man are in some kind of extremely dysfunctional relationship still, and she may have a kind of battered-woman syndrome making her protective of this idiot. I’d be stunned if he doesn’t have restraining orders or some other kind of criminal activity in his past.
