Consistently calling the man “Bernie” drives me a little bit crazy. It implies a level of collegiality, of close personal friendship, that does not exist between the supporter and the candidate. And it’s a diminutive up-tailing tone that almost forces the subconscious to think of the guy as a pal, as something harmless, anything but a serious adult politician.

I have a similar reaction to Ted Cruz’ half-assed half-anglicized name. Why not stick with Rafael Cruz? Or go all the way and call yourself Ted Cross? It smacks of unhealthy calculation when your name seems focus-grouped.
