I was standing on the curb earlier (UES, Manhattan) and heard an enormous cheer ring out from the bar on the other corner: I got into a cab, and the cheerful cabby (who was definitely from “somewhere else” - and definitely NOT Croatian) informed me that Croatia had just beaten Russia on the last PK - no, you’re not alone: Mother Russia seems to have very few friends (or fans) these days….
