Huntsman has already made powerful right wing enemies by not being anti-abortion enough. Romney too. Both of them are way out of the mainstream GOP.

I’d be surprised to see either of them get very far.

I think among the traditional republican base (i.e. RINOS), many are holding their collective breaths that the crazed, tea-party movement will kinda calm down over the next 2-6 years (for the 2012 and 2016 campaigns). I suspect when that happens Huntsman will become a very palatable and hopeful prospect.
