I often wonder how WWII would have turned out if fought in today’s political and social atmosphere?

We had just about everything then that we have now, just a different mix. The change is that the poorest didn’t get to fight, and the richest felt obliged to.

That was a war of overwhelming materiel production, and we simply don’t have the physical plant for it now. Pittsburgh is a college town.

Today, without a massive draft conventional army, we would nuke everything in sight. That’s really what XXI century armies are for—to prevent nuclear war.
