The only NYC lawyers I know living on $250K are sole practitioners living in Jersey. And not the expensive parts of Jersey. I know you were being a bit sarcastic, but this whole line of discussion is starting to annoy me. When you have $250K but live in a high-tax area and have kids to support (and heavens forbid you are self-employed) it is not as much money as it should be. When you make far less (and most people do), it sounds like a huge sum, and anybody complaining about making a go of it on a quarter mill is a douchebag.
