Again - timing is everything.

The old advertising adage is ‘you don’t roll out a new product in the summertime.’ People aren’t paying attention.

What would do more damage - running impeachment hearings in July while everyone’s off at the beach, or having televised hearings every single day once the 2020 campaign is in full swing?

I’m completely in favor of taking small bites over the summer. Contempt of Congress trials for Barr and Mnuchin, criminal investigations into Eric Prince, maybe make Brad Parscale’s life miserable for a while. These would all serve to grab headlines over the summer, and they would be the perfect pre-game for the main event - impeachment hearings in September, that would drag on for six or eight months, like Watergate. That would put us in May 2020, and by that time Trump’s approval ratings will be in the (gold) toilet for good.

What better to take Trump off his campaigning game better than having to answer daily questions about the latest hearing revelations?

The hearings we should be doing now will be preliminary to impeachment hearings proper. (Also too, the Watergate hearings — not impeachment hearings, as they were held in the Senate — started in May, and the nation was riveted. Summertime meant more free time to watch.)
