My impression was that HIPAA only covered providers, health plans, and employers and not jerks who don’t care who they hurt in the process of making a buck and seeking fame by repeatedly tweeting they “wuz xklusively furst”. Ah pardon me, my quote might be paraphrasing.

If he got it from a health professional (provider, plan, employer, doctor, nurse/staff, hospital official), then that person would be in violation of HIPAA. That’s why his “source” could land themselves in hot water. And CCJ just peddles in smears, so he’s more than willing to overlook things like the law to get a scoop.
