reckless disregard for the truth of the statement is, unfortunately, not the same as malice as we see it [and as it is so plainly demonstrated here].
true statements about public officials are almost never considered libel, because the thought is that the public has a right to know. this allows reporters the legal freedom to report on things like watergate [broad generalization, but i’m making a point] without fear of legal action.
this is a great protection provided to the media, and in times of scrupulous reporting, it makes crystal.clear sense.

unfortunately, it also means breitbart will probably get away with this from a libel + defamation standpoint. however - employment law is totally different, and she may have a solid case there.
