Well they did use level bombers in the attack on Midway’s facilities, and I didn’t really get the impression that they treated Halsey like the hero. They didn’t really devote much screen time to him. If I had to guess, the hero according to the movie would have been Nimitz. As far as Spruance is concerned, he needed more than his fair share of luck to go his way. The dive bomber strike that destroyed the Japanese carriers would have had to be recalled if they hadn’t found that destroyer racing to rejoin the fleet. The accidental timing of the strikes also gave the dive bombers the chance to attack unmolested by fighters.
The things that went right about that battle were largely due to Admiral Nimitz.

EDIT: I guess the point was the movie’s historical relevance. I think they did a good job, given that most of the available film is from later in the war. I didn’t see too much film of Hellcats and Helldivers (though there is some).
