This is often an American excuse, I usually hear it as an explanation of why you can’t seem to work out how to run free and fair elections.

“We can’t do what others can do because we have more resources”.

It’s an argument I can never understand.

We can’t seem to work out a lot of things because a sparsely-populated interior is implacably opposed to policies that support and/or benefit wealthy, densely-populated, diverse cities. And both the Senate map and the electoral college gives that sparsely-populated interior a lot more power than their numbers would suggest.
