The spin-off of the 2005 reboot, Torchwood, I think will appeal to a more edgier crowd. To know the main character’s back story you need to watch the 2005 series 1 of Dr. Who, but that is just for the main character.

Torchwood was not cornball.

Torchwood is on Netflix. I haven’t had the nerve yet.
