I mean I get that they don’t want to spend a ton of training but I am sorry but you’re not always going to find someone who fits that exact glove.

They see it as ‘skills mismatch’ because they can’t pay shit wages for trained, experienced people, and they don’t want to train them because (they claim) the trained people will take jobs for more money elsewhere.

This used to be a pretty simple equation - if you pay good wages and provide good benefits and don’t treat your employees like shit, they’ll work hard and they’ll stay. If you pay shit wages, offer shitty benefits, and treat employees like shit, they’ll fuck off and/or find someplace else to work.

Many business owners seem to be forgetting that loyalty runs two ways.

It’s like my Conservative friend who said that an employer only owes his employees enough compensation to keep them from leaving. I said, “Sure! But then they only owe him enough work to keep from being fired.” He was appalled! Apparently no matter how poorly you’re paid or treated, you always owe your employer your best effort.

What is a business arrangement for the employer becomes a moral imperative for the employee.
