Sure, Trump is over-the-top and likely utterly wound up on narcissistic rage, but he’s still maintaining form enough to communicate with his audience and address their concerns. This insane shit he’s saying? It may be deranged, but it answers the feelings of his supporters. He’s still operating within their expectations and desires.

The audience wants this, because it reflects their worldview: that everything is against them, that nothing is good because they are uncomfortable, that all their hatefulness and cruel impulses are actually righteous anger…because their only base assumption, their only “truth” is that they are the only important people, and everyone else should defer to them.
