Trump had a very simple equation in his mind: “Strong economy = reelection”

He could only see Corona as a threat to the economy, and therefore a threat to his chances, rather than as a chance to accept that the economy was gonna take a hit, but to nonetheless demonstrate leadership and rally the nation to his side.

But he has no concept of leadership beyond giving orders to his circle of lackeys.

Every last one of his instincts to deal with covid19 have been spectacularly wrong. He ignored it. Downplayed it. Make up crap about its lethality and spread. Refused to test, because he thought high case numbers would tank his reelection chances, etc.

Every last one of those decisions caused even more cases and the death spiral of the economy coupled with mass casualties nationwide.

Right now, the epicenter is NY, but within days it’ll be GOP dominated states like TX and FL, because they took the Trump model and decided to ignore the health experts.
