If that’s the case, I don’t understand how married military w/dependents are eligible for SNAP benefits, but I don’t know how that works these days. We got a dependent’s check, some of which (not all) was deducted from the serviceman’s pay. I remember precisely what my allotment for myself and 2 kids was: $159/mo, with no allowance for housing or anything else, except health care which had to be gotten on base, or I had to pay more for civilian care, a co-pay of sorts. If you were separated (as I found out), you were not eligible for any on-base housing of any sort—you simply became persona non grata.

I don’t know. Tried one for an E-5 with 10 years and family of 5. A little less than 60K per year. Doesn’t seem like much for a family of 5.
