I suspect they’ll make gains with this strategy of appealing to the wingnuts in the short term, only to have it backfire on them in 2012.

If things don’t turn around, Obama will be toast in 2012. I say this as a person looking at things. Not because I am a Republican. And I have no idea who will beat him.
