I have to have a license to drive a car, I have to have a license to fly a plane, I have to have a license to call myself a geologist, I had to have a license to get married. I DON’T need a license for the half dozen guns I own, a couple of which are actual weapons of war. There is something very, very wrong in this picture. Require the damned license, make people prove they are at least sane and know how to handle guns. It is not too much to ask and it does not infringe any kind of rationally defined right. I will be first in line to apply for such a license. We don’t do this because a paranoid sub-culture is afraid such a requirement will lead to tyranny. If we are that close to the edge a few million small arms in the hands of mostly ill-trained and disorganized fantasists are not going to help. Enough already.
