My grandfather was born in Ireland and my grandmother was born in Canada (though she did not discover that until after her mother, who had never told her, passed away).

Was a popular route. My grandparents (mother side) came from Ireland to Canada and then to the US. My oldest uncle was born Canadian, but all the rest (my mom and 10 other aunts and uncles) were born in US.
