My grandad had a mustache like that when he was younger. And he fled Poland in 1918 after WWI. It was the style of the time. After WWII, it obviously became a lot less fashionable.

A friend got a bad hair cut and after stepping out of the shower, noted how much his mustache made him look like Hitler. His wife agreed and took a pic of him with his hair combed to the side. They thought people would see the ironic humor in it, given their mixed race heritage and put it on the Facebook page. Big mistake. A lot of folks thought he was actually a Hitler wannabe. Got a LOT of hatemail. Of course they took it down. But yeah, it is a VERY unpopular look except with a select group.
