re: #260 Political Atheist

Just curious as to peoples take on it. Guy was extremely dedicated and caring about the troops around him.

It’s a long hard course before you get out in the field. There is a certain personality type that is needed as well. The saying is, anyone can use a scope to kill someone once; only snipers can do it again. That’s not literally true, of course, but those who are able to be successful snipers have to separate themselves from the result of their actions in a way that is different from most troops. If the book takes time to discuss the training and the hows and whys it might be interesting. If it’s just a collection of, as it were, “war stories” then not so much.

The concept of caring for your troops is ingrained early and often in the US military’s training of NCO’s & Officers. It’s considered an important aspect of leadership and if you aren’t able to do that, you probably are going to get passed over for promotions and be out of the military quickly.
