In both 2008 and 2012, President Obama pretty much proved you don’t need to with the Deep South to win the White House. What you need is Florida; win that, and the White House is yours.

The “Blue Wall,” as GOPlifer has termed it, is such that the GOP candidate would have to successfully take every swing state and turn a blue state in order to have a chance next year. In other words, they could win Ohio and Florida, but still come up short.
